Welcome to Fire on the Prairie Bladesmithing Competition!

Are you ready to showcase your bladesmithing prowess? We invite skilled bladesmiths and blacksmiths to participate in our exciting forging competition at the Prairie Arts Center in North Platte on October 5th, 2024.

Competition Details:

  • Format: Intermediate to Advanced level

  • Time: 6-hour open competition from metal to finished product

  • Guidelines: Craft your own signature blade within the designated timeline and parameters set by the PAC committee. Materials, including train springs or knuckle pins and Osage Orange blocks, will be provided.

  • Judging: Your creations will be evaluated by esteemed judges,  Forged in Fire Champions Chris O’Brien, Peyton Ramm, and Garrett Elting.

  • Testing: Blades will undergo rigorous edge retention, sharpness, and overall style tests.

  • Prizes: 1st Place- $1,000 | 2nd Place - $500 | 3rd Place- $250

 

What We Provide:

  • Materials such as blade springs or knuckle pins and Osage Orange blocks

  • Essential equipment, including forges, anvils, power hammers, presses, and grinders

  • Propane tanks, tents, generators, heat treating oil, grinder belts.

  • Hospitality Tent with refreshments and food/snacks to keep your energy up. 

Friday Meet and Greet: Join us for a community-invited meet and greet where competitors can mingle with judges and fellow participants.

We are also asking competitors to bring a finished blade of any make to be auctioned off. Proceeds will be split 70 % to the bladesmith and 30% to the PAC. 

We also encourage bladesmiths, if they would like, to set up a booth selling their workmanship and merch. ( The PAC will not take any cut of those profits) 

How to Apply: To participate, please submit 5 photos of your recent work and a brief bio/history of your bladesmithing background to director@prairieartscenter.org or call 534-5121.

With it being a juried entrance to the competition, there is no entry fee.
