This exhibit is our tribute to Robert Henri, one of America’s most renowned artists and teachers.

Henri pioneered the Ashcan School of American realism and taught at the Art Students League in New York City from 1915-1928. The Art Spirit published in 1923, elegantly expresses his beliefs and theories, which have inspired countless artists for a hundred years.

Robert Henri (born Robert Henry Cozad) spent his early life in Cozad, Nebraska, the town founded by his father. Today, The Robert Henri Museum and Art Gallery preserves his boyhood home.

"There are moments in our lives, there are moments in a day, when we seem to see beyond the usual. Such are the moments of our greatest happiness."
- Robert Henri
