TED LONG EXHIBIT
Sponsored by Sandhills Private Banking
January 2021

Picture
North Platte native and nationally known artist, Ted Long (1932-2007),  is recognized as one of the foremost western artists in the country.   Join PAC the month of January to explore a Lifetime of Long's work.  Long was energized by his love of the outdoors and the beautiful rustic surroundings of his North Platte studio. He dedicated his life to accurately portraying the legacy of the Old West, before he passed away at his home in 2007.

Long’s work is recognized worldwide and in private collections, galleries, museums and commercial settings. Actor John Wayne purchased Monarch of the Plains, a sculpture that depicts a buffalo attacking a pair of Native Americans on horseback. Wayne had placed a single stipulation on the purchase: Long must deliver it in person to Wayne’s residence in California. In 1987, Long presented President Ronald Reagan with The Last Farewell, a bronze of Buffalo Bill Cody.    Long's sketches, oil paintings and bronze sculptures in this room, tell a story about his passion for nature, history and the west.

While visiting the gallery, check out the Ted Long Legacy room on PAC's 3rd floor.  This room is designed after Long's studio, an old log cabin just like his great grandfather homesteaded in the 1800's.

From painting I have procured an author's work; I have recreated all genres and worked several trends. I have done it from the purely classical to the modern, in this search process I have managed to specify my own discourse through creation.”

  • “Could you still hold my hand?”  -  Tenyoh and Kit Watson
I used to sing, dance, run, work, laugh, and love. But time has robbed them from me. I can no longer sing or dance.  I am wheelchair-bound.  With a frown on my sagging face.  I have to be fed.  I have to be put to bed.  I cannot even recognize you.  Yet could you still come to hold my hand?

Many of us know someone, who struggle with dementia. It is a universal theme, yet seldom expressed visually.  This collection of paintings and sculpture will show the progression of age and artwork as teacher and student work side by side.  Their works will span 20 years and will narrate how teacher, student and age can influence each artist.
